Celebrating Solihull’s local businesses
Published on Wednesday, 28 November 2018
Independent businesses across Solihull are set to be
showcased on social media as part of the celebrations for the national ‘Small
Business Saturday’ campaign.
Launched in 2010, the campaign promotes the message ‘shop
local’ and raises the importance of small businesses to communities and local
economies. It will be celebrated this year on Saturday 1 December.
In the week leading up to 1 December Solihull Council,
alongside the Federation of Small Business, will be highlighting key success
stories of local businesses and the support that has enabled them to grow and
prosper.
The campaign highlights local retailers, cafes and offices
and what it is like to be a small business owner within the Solihull area.
Councillor Ian Courts, Deputy Leader of Solihull Council and
Cabinet Member for Managed Growth, commented:
“Small businesses are critical to our local economy and it
is vital that we support them, particularly as conditions on our high streets are
becoming more competitive. The Small Business Saturday campaign highlights the
hard work and determination of our local business community and the unique
goods and services that each of them provide, offering exceptional and
personalised service to their customers.”
Lee Osborne, Federation of Small Business Development
Manager for Warwickshire and Coventry, said:
“Small Business Saturday is a prestigious campaign and is a
great opportunity to celebrate the successes of small firms and self-employed in
Solihull and across the UK. There are 5.7million small businesses across the UK;
Small Business Saturday helps spread the word about the services and products
small firms offer their local communities and why they should be supported all
year round.”
Local businesses are encouraged to use the hashtag #SmallBizSatUK
and follow the Small Business Saturday UK activity on Facebook (Small Business
Saturday UK), Twitter (@SmallBizSatUK) and Instagram (SmallBizSatUK) during the
week of the event and on 1 December to showcase special offers,
events and their goods and services.
