GBSLEP Pilot Low Carbon Grant Fund

The GBSLEP’s Pilot Low Carbon Grant Fund is targeted at SMEs, and has been designed to support the development of high-growth, low-carbon technology projects in the region, by funding market research and feasibility studies up to a value of £35,000.  

The deadline for applicants is 3rd December 2020.

Please read the guidance document prior to applying for the grant and check your eligibility.  

Successful projects will undertake studies that demonstrate how low-carbon technologies, or novel integrations of technologies, will be deployed in the WM-region and reach their addressable market in the medium-term.  

Outputs from studies funded by the GBSLEP’s Pilot Low Carbon Grant Fund may include: 

• Planned business case for your proposed energy system solution, addressing route to market and/or investment.  
• Technical feasibility of your solution at a location within the WM.  
• Proposal for a demonstration project to take place upon the completion of the project. 

The Strategic Economic Plan Enabling Fund (SEP EF) is a revenue fund of last resort, designed to support the delivery of projects that will help GBSLEP to deliver its SEP. In line with the SEP, project expenditure may be considered under the following headings: 

• Market Research 
• Consultancy Costs 
• Technical Development/Prototype/Innovation 
• Salary/Own Labour  

To lead a project, your organisation must: 

• Be an SME registered in the 3-LEP area (Greater Birmingham & Solihull, Coventry & Warwickshire, Black Country). 
• Be a Low Carbon & Environmental Technology business as per the definition in the Guidance documentation. 
• Collaborate with another registered business. 

To collaborate with the lead, organisations must: 

• Be a registered business, academic institution, charity, public sector organisation or research and technology organisation (RTO) 
• Be invited by the lead organisation 

Expectations, and who can apply:  

• Consortia must be of at least 2 businesses, with the lead organization based in the 3-LEP geography. 
• Non low carbon businesses, academic institutions and research and technology organisations (RTOs) cannot lead.  

• The lead and at least one other organisation must claim funding by entering their costs during the application. 
• Your project can include partners that do not receive any of this competition’s funding. Their costs will count towards the total eligible project costs.
