MMX expanding in Solihull thanks to the Business Growth Programme

Published on Thursday, 21 September 2017

MMX provides fully integrated service solutions for clients operating in market sectors where high technology telecommunication assets are employed. They work in partnership with companies based in telecommunication, utilities, petrochemical, transportation, defence, and public-sector technology markets.

The company has grown from 39 employees, when it was bought out by management in 2010, to 66 employees in 2017.

The expansion of MMX services relates to the development of a new Network Operations Centre based in Solihull and funded in part by the Business Growth Programme Grant. The new centre enables MMX to continue increasing its workforce, including employing skilled engineers to monitor customer networks remotely. By increasing remote diagnostic resolution of faults it is hoped the frequency of engineer site attendance will decrease, reducing their carbon footprint as a result.

Neil Bartlam, Managing Director said:

“MMX has been frustrated in the past by not being able to bid for contracts that required a Network Operating Centre to be in place at the time of tendering, where all the other customer requirements were met. As a management team it was difficult to justify a substantial investment that had no guarantee of a return.”

“The support of the Business Growth Programme Grant allowed MMX to take the positive decision to invest in this new service offering which will allow MMX to bid for and win new contracts and customers”

“We believe that investing in the Network Operating Centre will lead to increased revenues, and increased profitability. It will also have a positive effect on the number of staff we need to employ and will help us take our employee numbers beyond the 70 mark, towards doubling our headcount in the 7 years of management ownership.”

Councillor Ian Courts, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Managed Growth at Solihull Council said:

Solihull Council is committed to encouraging innovation and supporting SME businesses that want to grow, as well as helping those planning to move to the area. We recognise the important contribution SME’s make to the economic growth of the Borough. I look forward to seeing the new Network Operating Centre at MMX once it’s up and running.”

The Business Growth Programme is a £33 million project designed to strengthen supply chains, stimulate innovation and grow existing small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) across the Greater Birmingham and Solihull, Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire and The Marches Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs).

Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and managed by Birmingham City Council, the BGP builds on the successful delivery of the Business Development Programme, the Business Innovation Programme and the Green Bridge Supply Chain Programme.
