New to Solihull Arden Club and the UK – Padel Tennis
Published on Thursday, 28 March 2019
Padel tennis is often called one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Why? Because it’s a social and fun ‘intergenerational game’ for all the family in which grandparents can play alongside their grandchildren. It’s also an ideal fitness session for players of all abilities and disabilities. Padel tennis is an increasingly popular sport worldwide with over 10,000 courts in Spain alone (but only 55 in the UK). And it’s increasingly popular here in the UK too with the London Padel Masters tournament being organised for October 2019. Which is why Solihull Arden Club has launched a fundraising appeal to build four Padel tennis courts at its site in Sharmans Cross Road.
Padel Tennis is played on a smaller court that’s approximately one third the size of a traditional tennis court and is surrounded by perspex walls. The game is usually played in teams of ‘doubles’ and it’s not dominated by strength or a strong serve. Most people can pick up the basics in 30 minutes so that they can play the game.
Richard Dumbleton, Chair of Solihull Arden Club ‘We wish to welcome more people to the club to improve their participation and enjoyment in playing racket sports. We hope the whole community will support us in raising the £200,000 in funds we need to build four Padel tennis courts as we have all the facilities and coaching needed here to make it a great success for Solihull. Our aim is to enable families and community groups such as schools and local charities to play Padel tennis and enjoy themselves while getting all the health benefits of improving their fitness.’
Solihull Arden Club is an amateur sports club that relies on its own activities to continue trading. It has launched a fundraising appeal. If you would like to support the appeal, please visit: www.solihullarden.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/A5_PaddleFund.pdf
People can “buy a brick” for example, or companies can sponsor parts of the building programme if they wish. For more information please contact Mr Robert Saffery, General Manager, Solihull Arden Club, Sharmans Cross Road, Solihull B911RG. Tel: 0121 704 9451.
