The team at Touchwood is celebrating after winning two prestigious accolades at the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Awards 2022, on Friday, March 4.
The awards ceremony, held at the ICC in Birmingham, recognised the remarkable achievements of businesses across Greater Birmingham during the most challenging of times.
Touchwood beat off intense competition in recognition of its commitment to first-class service, safety, and innovation, to take home two awards - ‘Excellence in Retail and Hospitality’ and the most coveted title of ‘Greater Birmingham Business of the Year.’
The centre’s strategic, leisure-led approach has seen Touchwood thrive in its post-pandemic recovery. It is on track for 100% occupancy and footfall is tracking at 10% above the UK average – an extraordinary achievement that has gained recognition across the industry.
Tony Elvin, General Manager of Touchwood, comments: “Our industry has been through a tough time over these past two years, but the hard work and dedication of the Touchwood team has paid off. We were over the moon to bring home the Excellence in Retail and Hospitality Award, which was even more momentous given the tough competition.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to every member of my team for their role in achieving this award and to our guests for continuing to put feet on the ground and money in our tenant’s tills. We recently celebrated Touchwood’s 20th anniversary and we are all excited about the next 20 years as we continue to secure exciting new brands and evolve to meet the changing landscape and needs of our guests.”
Henrietta Brealey, chief executive of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “Not only has Touchwood excelled in delivering a high-quality, customer-focused shopping experience in the face of a pandemic, it has also been at the heart of the Solihull community in providing ongoing support and essential services to customers and tenants.
“I know our judges were extremely impressed with this people-focused business and commented how the centre has set the benchmark for UK shopping centres to aspire to.”
Evolving into a multi-faceted visitor destination through its comprehensive leisure facilities, independent restaurants, events and activities programme, Touchwood is committed to offering the best customer experience for both residents and visitors alike.
Touchwood is proud to sit at the heart of the Solihull and wider community and is continuing to lead as a community champion, supporting local charities and initiatives, including the Touchwood Enterprise Scheme, which gives local start-up businesses the chance to have their first ‘high street’ presence at a discounted rate.
The centre also puts inclusivity and diversity at the heart of its values; working with the local community to celebrate culture, heritage and set up initiatives such as Quiet Hour with Autism West Midlands, Purple Tuesday, and the Solihull Shopmobility scheme.
