Your Green Future Solihull

Published on Monday, 15 May 2017

Your Green Future Solihull March 1 & 2 saw the return of Your Green Future Solihull, a 2-day sustainability event with more than 400 students from secondary schools across Solihull and Birmingham.  Held at Solihull College the students took part in a series of interactive workshops exploring  the role of sustainability in innovation, retail, energy, construction and waste and how this could help define their future careers. www.yourgreenfuture.org.uk

The workshops are designed so that the students see sustainability as something more than just a green ‘add-on’ but as a fundamental element of all business in the future.  Unfettered by preconceptions and practicalities the students imaginations are able to run free enabling them to come up with some truly innovative suggestions for the future; cars that not only are emission free but help clean the outside air as it passes through the engine; kinetic clothing where the wearer generates small amounts of electricity as they move around, sufficient to keep a mobile phone charged.

It isn’t just the students that get something out of taking part, businesses also find it challenges them to really think about sustainability within their own area of work and how to communicate this to a very different audience.

"A Great way to get kids thinking about products for the future, they really get involved and get creative with what the needs will be in 20 years’ time.   It was a great insight and experience" IKEA

Work will soon be under way for Your Green Future 2018, if you are interested in getting involved, please contact Karen Robinson at Severn Wye Energy Agency – karenr@severnwye.org.uk
