HR MI Manager, Tarmac

Matched to: St Peter's Catholic School

Why did you become an Enterprise Adviser?

My main motivation for becoming an Enterprise Adviser was based on my own personal experiences of careers advice and preparation during school, which was very minimal. The focus instead appeared to be short-term, i.e. selecting option modules and getting the grades to secure your next step whether that be A-Levels, University etc. There seemed to be little information about the longer-term careers opportunities that these subjects could lead to. It wasn’t until I started to apply for work placements as part of my degree that I gained an appreciation of how to write a CV, prepare for an interview and understand potential career pathways that were available.

It is really encouraging to see how much this has changed over recent years and as part of my career in HR, I have supported a number of careers events in schools such as interview skills workshops, recruitment fairs and careers insights sessions. When I heard about the Enterprise Adviser role, it seemed like a great opportunity to pursue this further and work with a school on their careers strategy.

What do you enjoy most in your role as an Enterprise Adviser?

Although I have not been an Enterprise Adviser for very long, one of the main things I enjoy is working with the school to understand their unique challenges and helping in any way I can. It has also been a great way of giving something back and sharing learning from my own experiences.

Overview of your chosen career or career pathway to your current role.

After completing a degree in Business Administration at the University of Bath, I joined Aston Martin as a Graduate Buyer initially working in Purchasing. After 2 years, I did a rotation in HR as part of the graduate scheme and knew this was the area I wanted to pursue a career in.

At the end of this year, I secured a newly created role within the team as a HR Project Coordinator – a broad role spanning across all areas of HR including Apprenticeship recruitment and onboarding, implementing a Global Learning Management System, re-designing the performance appraisal and process re-engineering. My role then changed to report directly into the VP & Chief HR Officer as his Technical Assistant which involved working on organisational development change projects, developing board presentations as well as data analysis and reporting. During this time, I also completed my CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resources Management through online study in my spare time.

Having particularly enjoyed the data and reporting aspect of this role, I joined Tarmac in 2020 as their HR MI Manager. In this role I am responsible for all employee data analysis and reporting across the business and developing HR insight which can be used to drive HR strategy and decision making.
