If you are looking for work, the Employment and Skills Team at Solihull Council can point you in the right direction. We can help you put a great CV together, give you advice on how to do well at interviews and talk to you about where and how to look for jobs that suit your skills and experience.

Apprenticeships are a great way to start your career. They are real jobs which have training attached to them and they take between one and four years to complete. There are over 1500 job roles across a wide range of industries with pay ranging from £2.68 an hour to £17,000 a year.

Having some hands-on experience of work can really help you when you’re looking for a job. Employers are always keen to know that you have practical skills, can work with other people and are reliable. Even if you’re not in work, you can still gain hands-on experience through work experience placements and volunteering.

Traineeships

Traineeships are a stepping stone for motivated young people aged 16 -23 years old who are actively looking for an apprenticeship or a job. Focussed on work-preparation training, English and Maths (for those who need it) and a high quality work experience placement, traineeships are a great way to build confidence and skills for the world of work in a hands-on way.

Post 16 Education

What options are available after 16? Education after 16 doesn’t just mean staying at school full-time: you can stay at school, go to college, or take up an apprenticeship or a part-time training course. You can earn money and learn new skills at the same time if you want to.
