Job Purpose


A graduate traineeship in the Communications team.

Main Responsibilites


The following areas will be covered by this post during the training year and will be supervised by a senior member of staff:

• Media relations, including dealing with press enquiries, preparing press releases and statements. Taking part in media briefings and events as appropriate.

• Communications projects and planning, delivering campaigns on Council issues.

• Using social media, updating Twitter, Facebook, and other social media.

• Working on consultations, designing basic surveys and presenting the results.

• Collating news clippings and monitoring success of proactive press and communications initiatives.

• Promoting Council services using a range of marketing techniques.

Any other appropriate duties as and when required.

Experience and Skills


Has some published writing – e.g. student magazine or newspaper, reviews in local paper, website, blog etc.
Previous employment experience (of any type and in any field).
Knowledge and understanding of the role and responsibilities of a local authority.
