Job Purpose
To support local people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) or those requiring additional support, to move into employment or training by providing specialist careers information, advice, guidance and support.
Main Responsibilites
• Engage with NEET young people age 15-29 in the local community who require specialist support.
• Support, manage and progress a caseload of young people with special educational needs into appropriate employment or training; including apprenticeships and Supported Internships.
• Deliver impartial careers information advice and guidance to young people in a range of settings.
• Work with young people (and if appropriate, their parents or carers) to establish aspirations and future plans through the use of assessment and profiling tools and bespoke career pathway planning.
• Work and liaise with a range of services (including the voluntary sector) to ensure vulnerable SEND young people are supported through their transition by planning and working together effectively.
• To seek to improve the range and quality of opportunities available to vulnerable SEND young people by influencing settings and provision and working closely with the Employer Engagement Officers to maximise appropriate opportunities with local employers.
• To update the project CRM system to record all activities including assessments as required in order for SMBC to report progress on key performance indicators.
Experience and Skills
* Experience of managing a caseload and achieving successful outcomes when working with workless individuals, young people and vulnerable groups.
* Experience of working with young people and adults with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties and understanding their additional needs.
* Knowledge and understanding of the barriers faced by workless individuals, specifically those with SEN, trying to access and maintain employment and/or training opportunities.
Qualification
Degree or minimum Level 6 qualification in Career Guidance.
